This week of my daughter’s Girl Scouts day camp went by so fast! I can’t believe tomorrow is her last day.
Tonight I’ve done a Cute Bugs Bento lunch for tomorrow.
There are two mini veggie burgers w/cheese (the ladybug and snail), black olives, sliced pickles, pretzels, string cheese (spider and ants), and three vegetarian (without gelatin) Marshmallows (lightning bug, caterpillar and bee.)
This whole week has been so fun making these lunches. Now I will have to think if I can keep this up and stay creative enough to do this through this coming school year…
For my daughter’s second to last day of camp, I’ve made a Littlest Pet Shop theme featuring Zoe the puppy. This was a very simple lunch.
Bone shaped French toast with syrup to dip, vegetarian sausages, a hard boiled egg with Zoe on it, strawberries in the shape of flowers and cinnamon pita chips.
Drawing was done with food color markers.
Tomorrow is the third day of camp and my daughter is too excited to return. While she sleeps, I’ve been making her lunch for tomorrow.
This bento theme is Disney’s Brave, featuring some symbols and friends from Princess Merida’s world.
Vegetarian turkey deli slice roll ups with a little color added, a dill pickle, bunny crackers under the Brave with baby bear tortilla chip, a hard boiled egg with Angus the horse, raspberries, and two cookies with a somewhat Celtic design drawn on and another small tortilla chip with Merida’s bow and arrow.
This one will be a fun surprise for my daughter as she loves Brave!

Tomorrow will be day two of camp for my daughter and so tonight I’ve created another cute bento lunch for her.
This theme is Summer Camp and Woodland animals.
The lunch includes two grilled cheese sandwiches (a bear sleeping in a tent), a hard boiled egg (owl with the moon), carrots and pretzels as a campfire, strawberries and miniature (vegetarian) s’mores!
The miniature s’mores I made using organic cinnamon crunch cereal, cut pieces of dandie’s vegetarian (no gelatin) marshmallows and organic chocolate chips.

My daughter is off to camp again for this year and so time to make her some fun lunches.
For her first day of camp I’ve created an ocean theme bento.
It is vegetarian and has two peanut butter sandwiches (the seahorse and a seashell underneath), a krackjack (Indian) biscuit(the dolphin), hard boiled egg (octopus), cucumbers (cut like starfish), ranch dressing to dip and grapes.
I drew on the food items with edible color markers.
My daughter has donated shelves full of toys from her playroom to make space for creating a dollhouse for her American Girl dolls. I have been keeping an eye out here and there for things that might fit or make it special. One of the first things I came across was a vintage Wolverine metal kitchen set exactly doll sized online. I got it for a great bargain but it needed a little revamping. Since my daughter has a child sized version I bought her years ago and I fixed that one up, I knew what I was doing.
These metal kitchen sets from Wolverine were made approximately in the 1950’s, possibly early 60’s. Most have some degree of rust, especially on the shiny silver parts. This is the easiest to remedy, I purchased a silver leafing pen (really it is like a marker) and over the past few months as i would get time, I would paint the silver leaf over all the silver parts on the kitchen pieces. It covers rust and fading perfectly.
Since my daughter will be playing with these and we don’t know if the original paint is lead based or not, I’ve used a clear coat lacquer to cover all the painted areas. This not only protects my daughter but also preserves the original colors and designs.
It turned out fabulous and my daughter is enjoying it!
I’m gearing up for my daughter’s bday party on Sunday and so have made a sweet treat for the guests.
Princess Marshmallow Pops
Dandies marshmallows (which are vegetarian no gelatin, and vegan)
Melting chocolate of your choice
Sprinkles or toppings
Small lollipop sticks
Small clear bags and ties
Melt the chocolate and dip each marshmallow and then top with sprinkles. Let them harden and push in stick and wrap with bag and tie.
I used a plastic container as the holder, I filled it with dry dal and the cut small x’s in the top.
I think the kids will love them.
